Parent/Carer Support Group,
North Leeds

Is your child/young person autistic and/or ADHD?

or

Are you exploring the idea of a possible autism or ADHD diagnosis for your child/young person?

Parenting can be hard. If you are parenting a neurodivergent child, things can get very tough and it can be extremely lonely and isolating.   So often we are misunderstood and told that it is a result of our bad parenting (it is not!) We all know that feeling of walking on eggshells, waiting for the next explosion; we have days that feel relentless and like no one gets it.    I believe that connection is key.  Yes, everyone is different, however, I also think that there are many overlaps in neurodivergent profiles, and that most families of neurodivergent children experience similar things.  Support available for families (pre and post diagnosis) is also very limited.

As a result, I have decided to create an in-person Parent/Carer Support Group in my local area (North Leeds.)  This will be a safe, non judgemental space, for all of us in a similar situation, to share experiences and support one another.

* Diagnosis is not needed

What will the support group sessions look like?

- a chance to sit down and have a drink (hot and cold drinks will be available) in a relaxed environment

-30 minutes at the start of each session for information sharing (including sharing of resources) linked to a specific theme

-a chance for attendees to share experiences/seek advice from the group

-time for attendees to mix and have chat with one another

Obviously, I want these sessions to be as beneficial/supportive as possible for those joining us, so I am open to any new ideas for things to include in the sessions.  Please email me at hello@neurostars.co.uk with any suggestions. Thank you
